Activate your licence

You'll find your licence key in three places:

• On the NotchBuddy download page you land on right after you pay.
• In the order email from Dodo Payments, our payment partner, which comes with your receipt.
• Any time in your customer portal: sign in with the email you bought with and you get a sign-in link by email.

Bought before 6 October 2026? Back then checkout ran on Polar: your key (it starts with NB-) is in your Polar customer portal and Polar’s order email, and it keeps working.

Open NotchBuddy, paste the key when it asks, and you're done. If the email hasn't arrived after a few minutes, check your spam folder, then write to support@notchbuddy.app with your order number.

Move to a new Mac

Each licence key works on one Mac only. It won't activate on a second Mac, and it can't be shared with other people; for another Mac, buy another licence. To move your key to a new Mac, open Settings in NotchBuddy on the old Mac and choose Deactivate this Mac, then paste the key on the new one. Lost the old Mac? Email us and we'll reset it.

Using it offline

NotchBuddy checks your licence with notchbuddy.app every few days when you're online. Offline it keeps working for up to 30 days; after that it asks you to connect once. Only your key, a one-way code for your Mac, your Mac's name and the app version are sent, never anything you write or copy.

Opening NotchBuddy

• Hover the notch (or the pill at the top centre on Macs without a notch) to open the panel.
• Press ⌃⌥Space from any app.
• Click the pet on Home to change pets and themes.

Permissions

• Calendar: asked the first time you open the Calendar tool. Events are read-only and stay on your Mac.
• Music and Spotify: asked the first time you use Now Playing, so NotchBuddy can show the track and play/pause.
• Camera: asked the first time you open Mirror. The camera runs only while Mirror is open; nothing is recorded or sent.

You can change any of them later in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Sounds

Pets make a quiet sound a few times an hour at most, never during focus sessions, while music plays, or while they sleep. Turn sounds off or down in the Pets screen or in Settings.

Uninstall

Quit NotchBuddy from its menu, then drag it from Applications to the Bin. Your notes and settings are in ~/Library/Application Support/NotchBuddy if you want to remove them too.
