NotchBuddy is made by Approtic Solutions Private Limited (Hyderabad, Telangana, India). This page covers the NotchBuddy Mac app and this website.

The app

  • Notes, reminders, links, scratchpad text, clipboard history and your shelf are stored only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/NotchBuddy. We never receive them.
  • Clipboard history skips anything a password manager marks as secret or temporary.
  • Calendar events are read on your Mac, only while the Calendar tool is open, and are never stored or sent anywhere.
  • Now Playing talks to Music or Spotify on your Mac to show the current track.
  • Mirror uses your camera only while the Mirror tool is open, as a live preview. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent.
  • Revenue is off until you connect a payment platform. The read-only key you paste is stored in your Mac's Keychain and sent only to that platform's own API (for example api.stripe.com) to fetch your recent payments and totals. Those payments are kept on your Mac for 31 days, with customer emails shortened (like jo•••@gmail.com). We never receive your keys or your sales.
  • The app has no account, no ads and no analytics.
  • To check your licence, the app sends your licence key, a one-way code made from your Mac's hardware ID (the ID itself never leaves your Mac), your Mac's name and the app version to notchbuddy.app, which checks them with our payment partner. This happens when you activate and every few days after. To check for updates, it downloads a small update feed from our server, which sees your IP address and app version like any web request.

The Mac App Store edition

  • The Mac App Store edition is sold through the Mac App Store, and this policy covers it too. Purchases on this website are billed to Approtic Solutions Private Limited.
  • If you buy NotchBuddy on the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase and updates. That edition has no licence key and never contacts notchbuddy.app: there is no licence check and no update feed.
  • It runs in Apple's app sandbox, so your notes, reminders and other data live in that edition's sandbox container on your Mac. We never receive them.
  • Now Playing reads the track notices that Music and Spotify post on your Mac. It asks Music or Spotify directly only when you open the Music tool or press play, pause or skip.
  • Everything else above applies to both editions.

This website

  • This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't fingerprint you and doesn't track you across sites. Our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security. If you arrive from one of our Google ads, the Google tag stores that click in a first-party cookie (_gcl_aw, 90 days) so that a purchase can be credited to the ad; it is used for nothing else, and in the EEA, UK and Switzerland it stays off. See how Google uses this data.
  • To know which link brought a buyer, your browser keeps the campaign tag or referring website of your visit (for example "producthunt") for 30 days in its own storage, not in a cookie. If you buy, that tag is passed to checkout and saved with your order. It doesn't identify you.
  • If you joined the launch list before NotchBuddy went on sale (25 September 2026), your email was used only to confirm your sign-up and to send the launch-day message, and it is then deleted. Both emails are sent through Cloudflare, our host, and each has a one-click unsubscribe that deletes your address at once.
  • Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, our payment partner, which acts as the merchant of record (orders before 6 October 2026 went through Polar). It receives your payment details and billing address; we receive your email, country and order details to deliver your licence and support you.
