Shelf: park files in your MacBook notch, or AirDrop them
Drag a file onto the notch and it waits there. Drag it out into Mail, Slack or Finder when you need it, or drop it on AirDrop to send it to your iPhone.
Between two apps
Moving a file from Finder to a browser upload, or from a download to an email, usually means juggling windows. Park it on the shelf, switch apps, drag it back out.
To your iPhone
Drop a file on AirDrop from the shelf to send it to a nearby iPhone or Mac.

Hover over the notch, or press Control-Option-Space from any app, then pick the tool from Home or More.

Does the shelf copy my files?
No. It keeps a reference to the file where it already is.
